Do I need a Gas Installer?

  • The warranty of gas appliances is dependant on the appliance being installed by a qualified Gas Installer. If you do not use a qualified Gas Installer your warranty on the appliance will not be valid.
  • Once your appliance has been installed, your gas installer will issue you with a Gas Certificate of Compliance. Keep it in a safe place because without it the appliance manufacturer will not honour the warranty on your appliance. If you ever need to claim on your Household Insurance, the first thing the insurance company will want a copy of before processing your claim is the Gas Certificate of Compliance.
  • Most household insurance companies insist that all gas installations be done by a qualified gas Installer.
  • We do not do installations of gas appliances and cannot take responsibility for the workmanship and level of service of any installer, as per our Terms and Conditions of Business (contact us for a full copy of these, or visit the Terms and Conditions page on this website for the Online version of them)

Our Recommended Gas Installers

We work closely with a few Gas Installers we know personally & are always happy to recommend them to our customers. Please call or email us for these details.

How To Find A List of Qualified Gas Installers In Your Area

  • In terms of the Pressure Equipment Regulations, all Gas Installers are required by law to be registered. with the South African Qualification and Certification Commitee for Gas (SAQCCGas).
  • Go to  www.saqccgas.co.za .
  • In the search box on the right of your screen, you will need to search by ‘ TOWN & SUBURB’  – use the name of larger areas (eg Randburg or Sandton) rather than smaller suburbs which fall within a  larger area.
  • The gas type is ‘LPG’
  • The skill will be ‘DOMESTIC/ RESIDENTIAL INSTALLER’.
  • If you live in an area with piped Natural Gas you will need to choose ‘NG’ as the gas type in the search above.
  • Once you have the list of qualified installers, call a few for quotes (prices can vary wildly) & always establish how long your installer has been qualified before deciding on which installer to employ (feel free to ask which brands of geysers they have had experience installing).

How To Check If An Installer Is Registered With SAQCC

  • Ask the installer for both his surname and his ‘QCC number’ (this is his SAQCC registration number). On the www.saqccgas.co.za website you will be able to enter either the installers surname or QCC number at a time. We strongly urge you to check both the surname and the QCC number.

Recognising Registered Installers

  • Registered installers are issued with an identity document bearing their photograph. The card also carries their name, authorization number and their grade i.e. Domestic, Commercial or Autogas. Consumers are strongly urged to ask the installer to present their card BEFORE allowing work to commence.
  • Installers are required to issue a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE after completion and commission of a ‘fixed’ installation, and to have instructed the end-user on the safe operation of the installed appliance/s and gas system, before handing over the installation.
  • If in any doubt over the credentials of an installer first refer to www.saqccgas.co.za where you will have access to a list of all authorised installers. If you are still unsure contact the SAQCCGAS offices on  (011) 285 0038.
